2016 Senators Bennet and Gardner Call for Art

Dear Artist,

Welcome to the sixth year of the Art on Loan program for Senator Michael Bennet and second year for Senator Cory Gardner’s Washington D.C. offices, coordinated by the Colorado Artists Guild.

Senator Bennet and his staff are again looking for 12 to 15 pieces of 2D artwork and possibly 2 or 3 sculptural pieces.   Because the Senator’s office and conference rooms have 25 ft ceilings, they would prefer pieces of artwork with a minimum height of 36 inches (including frame) but have selected a few small sizes.   As for style, they continue to be open to all submissions.

Just a note on Senator Bennet’s loan program, because of his upcoming election campaign, final notifications of selected work, will not occur until after election day.

Senator Gardner and his staff are looking for a mix of sizes.  Like Senator Bennet’s office, they have a few rooms with 25ft ceilings, but they also have other rooms that are smaller, so could use a few pieces of artwork in the 18” to 24” size range.  The style they are looking for is a little more specific.  Senator Gardner enjoys artwork that is more historic, and because he is from the eastern plains he would like see artwork that represents that part of the state as well.

Date: January 31, 2016 at 10:45:12 AM MST
Hi Everyone,
There is the strong possibility of a brand new plein air event in Littleton. The Aspen Grove Plein Air Art Festival. It will be held on or around Aug 25 – 31. Planes of the Head Workshop

Dates Updated
It seems that January was difficult for so many who wanted to attend.
Kim English and Nura Mascareñas
“Planes of the Head” 3-Day Workshop
March 20, 21 and 22, 2015
This unique workshop will focus on learning the planes of the head and how light affects those planes. The first day will be drawing, the second day will be painting, and the third day will be sculpting the “planes of the head” with modeling clay.
As a former teacher of Anatomy at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design for many years and a skilled painter of the figure, Kim brings deep expertise in helping students understand how to effectively draw and paint the essence, gesture and correct anatomical structure of the figure.
Nura, is also a graduate of Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. She is a nationally renown sculptor and has been teaching at the Art Students League of Denver for about 9 years and is deeply knowledgeable in translating 2-D planes to 3-D form.
This dual taught workshop provides students the opportunity of not only learning the planes of the head in drawing and painting but also understanding how the form changes as you move around the model in 3 dimensions. For the sculptors who have not worked in 2 dimension, painting in color will be a nice introduction, and learn a new way to transfer this knowledge. This intensive workshop is academic and focuses on developing one’s skills in seeing and understanding the human head. Drawing handouts will be provided and students will leave with a clay “planes of the head” model to use as future reference.
Cost: $500 including model fees.
Deposit of $100 is required due by March 7th to reserve your spot. Minimum of 10 and maximum of 12 students for this workshop.
Please feel free to pass this on to any other artists that may be interested.
Contact: Jody Rigsby for registration, payment and questions. 720-363-8017 -jody@jodyrigsby.com

Schedule: 9am to 4pm each day
Day 1:
Drawing:  Kim will be lecturing and drawing while we draw with him.  We will be working both from a model and Kim’s sketches.
Day 2:
Painting: The medium (watercolor, pastel, oil or acrylics) does not matter.  Understanding the planes is what is most important. We will be working from a model.
Day 3:
Sculpting: Nura Mascareñas will work with us in sculpting a clay, life sized “planes of the head” using our knowledge of what we have learned in the previous days. Clay will be provided for everyone.
Supplies:
Day 1: Drawing only. You only need to bring your drawing sketch pad, preferably 14 x 18 to 12 x 16 size. You will need a drawing pencil and eraser.
Day 2: Painting. Oils, acrylics, watercolor or pastels (your medium of choice), pochade box and tripod or easel with brushes (medium to small, mixture of bristle and soft brushes), odorless turp if oils. 4 canvases sizes 9 x 12 to 11 x 14.
(if you a sculptor and would like to borrow painting materials contact Jody)
Day 3: Sculpting the head – If you have clay sculpting tools, bring them, if not bring a butter knife and a small paring knife.  Clay and board for the sculpture are provided.
There will be a lunch break from 12 – 1. Lunch will be provided.
Snow Date: April 3, 4, and 5
Kim and Nura’s Studio:
